WCCAC Community Art Projects at the 2007 Williamson County Fair

For the second year at the Williamson County Fair, the Williamson County Cultural Arts Commission (the WCCAC) sponsored a Community Fine Art Project. This is an event, held in SunTrust Bank’s Arts and Photography Tent, where anyone who wishes can participate in creating a lasting piece of art. This is a community project in two ways. One way is that anyone from the community can take part, in any way that they wish. The second way is that the art that is produced is displayed in communities around Williamson County for the following year.

In order to promote and support the arts in Williamson County, the WCCAC made its members and an array of art materials available for the Community Arts Projects. In a comfortable corner of the SunTrust Bank Art and Photography Tent, WCCAC members set up canvases, paints, brushes, sponges, and other materials. Each canvas was divided into squares, and each participant got to paint in one of the squares. Visitors to the Tent were encouraged to express themselves on these canvases, following a theme that varied from day to day: sea life, farm, zoo, and Tennessee. People of all ages worked on the canvas, people from Williamson County and as far away as California. Some chose to sign their section, while others chose to remain anonymous to create the "community" theme of working together.

This year, the Fine Arts Project was joined by the Photography Arts Project. The WCCAC obtained a number of inexpensive digital cameras and made them available to anyone who wished to make photos at the Fair, following its theme: “Finding Fun at the Fair”. When the participating photographers returned the cameras, selected images were printed for community display along with the Fine Art products.

The results of the WCCAC Community Arts Projects are 5 sea life canvas, 1 farm canvas, 1 zoo canvas, 1 Tennessee canvas, and 1 children's photo canvas. These canvases are to be displayed at locations in different parts of Williamson County over the twelve months after the 2007 Williamson County Fair.

The WCCAC wishes to extend its sincere thanks to SunTrust Bank for underwriting the expense of the air-conditioned tent for the Art and Photography exhibits at the Fair. Thanks also to all the WCCAC members, and members of the Brentwood Camera Club who worked cheerfully and tirelessly for many long hours to assure the success of the Community Art Projects.
